We advise a wide range of financial institutions, from asset managers and insurance companies to retail and private banks. In today’s difficult market conditions financial services companies need advice that allows them to embrace the exceptional challenges and turn them into a competitive advantage.
Our Financial Services team comprises individuals who have held senior positions in the private sector and within Government. We have advised on many of the major industry refinancing or landmark mergers over the last few years, including:
• in the UK, advising Bank of New York Mellon on its £235m acquisition of Insight Investment Management; advising Saga on its ownership options, culminating in its £6.2bn combination with the AA; and advising Equitable Life on the buy back of an undated, subordinated and guaranteed bond (c.€500m)
• in Spain, we have successfully advised both financial institutions and insurance companies on half of the c.20 currently existing bancassurance agreements. Also, we have been sole advisers to Mapfre, the largest Spanish insurance company, on its most significant corporate transactions, such as its demutualisation (€ 3.0bn) and on the exchange of 15% of its shares for 49% of the MAPFRE – Caja Madrid Holding (€ 1.2 bn)
In addition, we have also advised on the refinancing of several specialised financing companies including ICG in its €2.3bn refinancing and Virgin Money in its €100m refinancing.
